| This unit steps inside the cell. It starts with the cell theory — the three rules that tie every living thing to cells — then compares the two great cell plans, prokaryotic and eukaryotic, and tours the organelles, each with its own job in the cell's division of labor. This unit is the heart of AP Biology Unit 2 (Cell Structure and Function): organelle structure and function, the advantages of compartmentalization, surface-area-to-volume limits on cell size, and membrane structure with its transport rules — the membrane pages here (cell membrane, phospholipid bilayer, vesicles) map onto AP Unit 2's topics on membrane permeability, transport, and compartmentalization.
