13_Frontier — The frontier — what is actually here yet¶

Three things get talked about as though they had arrived, and they are at three very different stages. This chapter's job is to say which is which, honestly, and to separate what is standardised and deployable from what is a research programme.
- Post-quantum — standardised (ML-KEM and ML-DSA, FIPS 2024) and already shipping in TLS. The urgency is harvest now, decrypt later: traffic recorded today, opened when a machine exists.
- Zero-knowledge proofs — deployed, in a narrow set of places, and genuinely doing what it says.
- Fully homomorphic encryption — real, correct, and still orders of magnitude too slow for most of what it is pitched for.
